First Travel and Leisure Expo Iceland together with Golf 2009 and Travel Market
News Release, 7 January 2009
The exhibition Travel and Leisure Expo Iceland 2009 will be held in the Laugardalur Exposition Centre on 8-10 May 2009, offering coverage of all aspects of travel and leisure both in Iceland and abroad. The tourist and leisure sectors have a great potential for expansion, and this exhibition will give industry professionals and the general public a unique opportunity to examine some of the possibilities. The Golf 2009 exhibition will be held together with Travel and Leisure Expo Iceland, and the centrepiece of both will be the Travel Market, where Iceland’s regional tourist associations promote their regions and the tourist facilities on offer in them.
The aim of the exhibition is to advertise the varied range of tourist and leisure opportunities to be found in Iceland and to draw attention to the companies and organisations involved in the sector. It will highlight the potential and focus on new and exciting ways of experiencing Iceland; in addition, a range of foreign travel packages will be presented. Special attention will be given to leisure and sport activities for young and old alike.
“The Travel Market has been held seven times since 2000 and serves as a meeting forum for the tourist industry in Iceland,” says Pétur Rafnsson, Chairman of the Icelandic Tourism Association. “As in the past, it will display the many tourist and leisure opportunities on offer in Iceland. But it also consists of the people who attend it and use it as a chance to present information about the facilities and the local life of their regions. We at the Travel Market make it our goal to stimulate travel by Icelanders in their own country. Tourism is one of the fastest-growing occupations in Iceland, and more often than not, it has been thanks to it that certain parts of the country are still populated.”
A good start to the golfing summer
Golf 2009 gives the guest a chance to find, in one place, information on all the new developments in the golfing world. Those who are interested in taking up golf for the first time will also be catered for, as golf instructors will be at the exhibition to answer questions and give advice on how to begin.
“Notwithstanding the financial crisis, the golf links will be just as green next summer as they have been up to now,” says Hörður Þorsteinsson, Manager of the Icelandic Golfing Association. “Our plan is to tell people about what goes on in the golf clubs and to give companies that serve golf enthusiasts a chance to publicise their activities. We plan to have special facilities in the exhibition hall where people can actually try golf “hands-on” and find out about the latest equipment, and also for local golf clubs to publicise their activities. We aim to make this into a positive occasion, a stimulating start to a good golfing summer.”
AP Public Relations is the organizer of the exhibition, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, the Icelandic Tourism Association, The Icelandic Tourist Board, Golf Iceland and Icelandair.
